The easy way is to observe that Rosh Hashanah Is the first day of the month, a new moon, Yom Kippur is 10 days after and Succoth is 6 days after that. So, a full moon occurs 14 to 15 days after the new moon. Reply

All chagim have their own charm and a teaching lesson. One of the lessons for Sukkot is that life is not always secure. The sukkah is one of the least stable housing features, and yet, it is amazing how the sukkah have survived all periods in our history. Security is always in our minds but the sukkah reminds us that we can survive insecurities too. It is a lovely Holiday, and I love the notion of inviting our ancestors to rejoice with us. Chag sameach to all ! Reply

I believe the answer to question 4 is incorrect. Hoshana Raba precedes Shemini Atzeret. If you are counting Hoshana Raba as another day of Sukkot, then why give it a name with special rituals? So, IMO, Shemini Atzeret does NOT immediately follow Sukkot. Reply

I am not sure I am understanding what you are saying here. Hoshana Rabba is one of the intermediate days of Sukkot. It is not a Yom Tov the way Shmini Atzeret is. The first two days of Sukkot are Yom Tovim, followed by five intermediate days, one of which is Hoshana Rabba, and that is then followed by the Yom Tov of Shmini Atzeret. Complicating the mix is Simchat Torah, which is a Yom Tov which is on the same day as Shimini Atzeret if one lives in Israel, and is on the day after Shmini Atzeret if one lives outside of Israel Reply
